The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) working in collaboration with the Thailand Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) studied a new HIV prevention method in a landmark study at Silom Community Clinic in Bangkok, Thailand. Silom Community Clinic was one of 3 study sites in Thailand that joined this study. The interim findings from this study of the drug long-acting cabotegravir (CAB LA) given by injection every 8 weeks found that CAB LA was very effective for HIV Prevention in men who have sex with men and transgender women who have sex with men. This drug may be easier for many people because it does not require taking a daily pill for HIV prevention. The information from this study can support more choices in HIV prevention and get us closer to ending the HIV epidemic in Thailand, the United States, and around the world.
